Integrity
We’ve got through the 33rd Annual Fryeburg Rec Golf Tournament. We hosted over 250 golfers and the weather was amazing. The food continues to get better and better every year. The giant breakfast sandwiches and the jumbo lobster rolls were a huge success. I sincerely appreciate all the people that come out and support this event. We host many tournaments at our course and it can be taxing on the wallet if you participate regularly. Just know that by playing in this event, you have given a young boy or girl an opportunity that they may not have had otherwise. Whether it is playing on an organized team or just socializing in a safe environment after school. You have given so many children the chance to have a positive experience. I think that is why most of us have spent half a life time running this event.
I was watching the PGA FEDEX Tour Championship a couple of weeks ago. The winner received a check for 25 million dollars. It was great to see the #1 player in the world finish off the season with a win but even Scotty Scheffler was feeling the pressure with purse money like that. There are so many great players on tour and so many great personalities to root for. It is wonderful to see that the PGA tour is stronger than ever.
Many say that golf is a game of integrity. I could not agree more. In the 3rd round of the tournament Sahith Theegala called a penalty on himself because he felt he touched the sand on his backswing while hitting out of a sandtrap. I have watched the video multiple times and can see no evidence for the 2 stroke penalty. Sahith played well all weekend and finished third. The self – imposed 2 stroke penalty cost him 2.5 million dollars. I think this proves that it is not just the integrity and honesty that is so important to the game but also the life lessons that millions of boys and girls learn from watching these events.
I had the opportunity to go up and play Sugarloaf Golf Club this week. This course has been on my Maine top 3 list forever. The views are breathtaking, the holes are cutout through the Maine woods and you can’t see another hole from the one you are playing. The conditions are pristine however the greens were so short and firm that the “Super” must have thought the PGA tour was playing. We finished the 6 hour scramble torture and packed up and came home. All I could think about on the way home is LKCC may not be pristine right now but we are very playable. I’ll take that any day!
We will be aerating greens next week (17th & 18th). We have hired extra help and it should be a quick painless process. The weather has been spectacular for a couple weeks and we can only hope it stays that way through the fall. Get out and enjoy a round. The leaves will be turning colors very soon.
