“Looking Back”
I think most people have some level of a love/hate relationship with the month of March. The weather is certainly unreliable at best. I just watched the weather at noon and it said the low temperature on Monday would be -2 and the low temperature on Thursday would be 43. I won’t mind a few big swings in the thermometer, but I can do without the 2 huge late snowstorms we had last year. We have made it to March, let’s celebrate!
Well, the political climate both nationally and locally has certainly drawn much media attention in the last few months. Did I just write that? Could someone check the editor’s blood pressure? What I meant to write was the cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails are in peek condition at LKCC. The views are amazing. Please go enjoy the groomed trails and the friendly faces you will see. Mike has done an amazing job on the trail system this winter.
If the weather cooperates, I will ride down to the Cross Insurance Arena and watch some State Championship Basketball games on Saturday. The building has a little over 6200 seats and most of them will be filled. It is a great event for the players, coaches and fans. I can remember watching Cooper Flagg winning a State title there as a freshman. So much fun!
I heard through the “grapevine” that Nike Sports is coming to Maine this summer. More specifically their 5-day multi-sports camp is coming to Fryeburg Academy! This camp offers many different sports with college coaches, college athletes and professional instruction. The camp will be Sunday through Thursday in mid-July. Please contact Fryeburg academy or visit their website for details. This is Nike’s Flagship trip to Maine, and we want them to be impressed. I am sure there will be some fundraising events for serious young athletes that may find the cost of the camp a little too expensive. Please stay tuned for details!!
A few weeks ago, our General Manager posted the “6 Who Care” video from 2010 on our Facebook page. It tells the history of the Fryeburg Field of Dreams and the vision of a Community Center on site. The Community Center is now a reality, and it is exploding with activities every day of the week. The video brought back so many great memories for me. Listening to Dick and Steve Cote speak is truly humbling. If you ever run into Nancy Calvert, please just give her a big hug and say thank you for all she has done for our community. The best places to find her would be LKCC (work/play), grocery store (Fred food), liquor store (lkcc beverages), bowling and the new Casino (fun time). She deserves all the thanks she gets!!
It looks like about 62 days until we open for our 102nd season at LKCC. There will be lots of clean up and many long days getting the 3rd green ready for turf. I can’t wait for all of it. See you soon.
