President’s Blog July 2025…..
I just looked at the weather forecast for this 4th of July weekend, and it said 0% chance of rain for Saturday and Sunday. After 14 out of 15 rainy Saturdays, I’ll take it!
Things are very busy this month at LKCC. Junior golf starts on Monday, then the Member/Guest and hopefully many vacationers come to play golf. I know there is much talk about the Canadians and whether they will come to the US this summer. I spoke with 2 of them last weekend and they are already here.
I have had many conversations about the playing conditions at LKCC this spring. They have all been very positive and appreciated. I am so fortunate to be able to take the time to go over and help out. It has been very rewarding to see all the new grass on the tees and greens. There is so much work that goes into getting a course ready to play. We only have so many hands. We are blessed with friends and relatives that will always help when asked. Thank you to Kyle Littlefield and his crew along with Dan Woodward and his crew. It takes many strong backs to lay 17,500 square feet of sod and we appreciate their hard work and top quality workmanship. A special thank you to Scott Allen and my gang of builders. They make this all possible.
I was conversing after an early golf round last week. The conversation moved to accounting and the “balance sheet”. My compadre (retired accountant) claimed that if the balance sheet did not balance then nothing can balance. It got me thinking about life, work, family and balance. I think it is a full time job to try and manage a “good” balance in life. In “Days of Thunder”, Tom Cruise tells Nicole Kidman (before he walks out to start the Daytona 500), “you got to be good at your job before you can enjoy the rest of your life.” I’m not sure if this is true but I love the line and the movie. Catherine Pulsifer, author and poet, writes “Time and balance are the two most difficult things to have control over, yet they are both things that we control.” I am certainly no expert, and I am sure I have plenty of room for improvement. Work hard, play hard and love your family. That’s how I have tried to live my life.
I ran into our GM last evening. She was preparing to play in the Scotch Doubles league. She looked at me and said, “ Don’t work at a golf course or the only time you can play is 5:30 in the afternoon.” I replied, “Or at 5:30 in the morning!” Speaking of that, my tee time is in 45 minutes. Time to get to Dunkin! Good luck with the “balance” thing. Be happy!
