President’s Blog January 2025

               The GOAT

I can remember when I was a kid and thinking that I will never live long enough to see the year 2000.  Well, we have made it to 2025 and have great expectations to see several more years.  This last year was another exceptional year at LKCC.  We now have more members than at any time in our history.  The future is very bright, and we are all working hard to make the course as nice as it can be.

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday season.  We celebrated New Years at The Night of Lights in Fryeburg on Bradley Street.  This is the 3rd year that this event has taken place.  It gets bigger and better every year.  The music is nice, the people are wonderful, the food is amazing and the ball drops at 7 pm.  If you have never been to one, I would put it on your bucket list.

As always there are a lot of extracurricular activities going on at the FA gymnasium.  We have 2 basketball games and a wrestling meet on the calendar this week.  Everything is so organized.  Much thanks to the FA athletic department for always putting on a great show.  If you are in the area, come on down and support the future of our country.  These young men and women are the epitome of dedication, hard work and pride in their school.  You might even pick up a slice of Jimbob’s pizza or a delicious hot dog or cheeseburger.  Compliments to the chef is always appreciated!

You have all heard the slang term GOAT (Greatest of All Time).  This term is usually used when arguing about a great athlete in any given sport.  I was listening to a couple guys on a podcast the other day and they had a list of the 10 most hated athletes of all time.  It became apparent to me that if you are one of the greatest, then you better expect to also be disliked by many.  I guess that goes with the territory.

I was discussing an old blog last spring with one of my favorite people/members at LKCC.  She suggested that I do a blog about the 2 best “goats” of all time.  The readers could chime in with their choices and I could tally them up.  As always, she had a neat idea and here it is.  Pick 2 athletes from any sport that are the greatest to ever play that sport.  Their accomplishments should be far beyond anyone else in their profession.  Here is my 2 cents worth.  I can decide between Michael and Lebron.  I also can’t decide between Mickey and Yaz.  So, the obvious choices are Tom Brady and Wayne Gretzky.  I look forward to reading everyone’s favorites.  This may go on for a while.

Please stay safe this winter.  We have had our share of cold, rain, ice and wind.  If you need help, please reach out.  We are so fortunate to live in a part of the world where people love to help their “neighbor”.  Hope to see everyone at The Fryeburg Kitchen and Marketplace on January 26 from 4-8 pm for a night of community fun to help Matt and Jenn Coen begin to recover from a terrible fire.  God bless you all.

Yours in Golf,

Brad
