President’s Blog February 2026
“Finding the Positive”
As usual I have waited for the Super Bowl to conclude before writing the February Blog. The result was not what many New Englander’s were hoping for, but it was sure more interesting than a 4 – 13 record and no play offs. The offensive line will get stronger, and our quarterback will get older. Many positives to take away from this season.
Last weekend we were fortunate to be able to volunteer in the FA Boosters Booth for the State Wrestling Dual meet. The best 16 teams from class A & B arrived and wrestled all day at the FA gym. They had 4 wrestling mats going at the same time. The tournament was very professionally run and the MPA official on site was amazed at how well the day went. The Boosters had a great day selling various crock pot goodies along with breakfast sandwiches, pizza, dogs and burgers. What a wonderful group this Boosters Club is. They work so hard and then focus on anything they can do to make the school better and enhance the experience of students. They are truly making a positive impact!
This past weekend we were very excited to be able to attend the Co-op Class A Girls Hockey semi-finals. It was the Fryeburg/Gorham team against the Biddeford/Thorton/Kennebunk team. There were a couple other schools in the mix but I’m not sure which ones. The Raiders had lost to Biddeford twice during the season but both in overtime. The Raiders have a senior that grew up in Lovell and now resides in Fryeburg. She is their best player, and it sure gave everyone a great sense of pride watching her play. The game went to overtime again. The Tigers carried the play in most of the first overtime. No one scored. They cleaned the ice and the Raiders came out flying as they carried the play in the second OT. Just as I thought they were going to find the back of the net, the Biddeford team had one rush up ice and found a way to score. The teams were both exhausted and they all should be proud of the way they handled themselves in victory and defeat.
You may find this hard to believe but we did go to The Fryeburg Kitchen and Marketplace to watch the first half of the Super Bowl. Generally, I would be in my recliner for the entire event, but Tom asked if we were coming down, so we did. All his football pools/squares make the game much more fun for me to watch but more importantly he always donates 20% to a kid’s program in the area. I believe that this round will buy new intermediate golf clubs for the LKCC Junior Golf Program. They are such a generous family and a great addition to our community. I appreciate all they do!
If my calculations are correct, it is just 80 days until the first tee box has players on it and our LKCC family will return home. We are shooting for May 1 to open. There is much work to do before that happens: 1st hole irrigation and fill, 3rd tee box expansion, 8th tee box expansion and a driving range to complete. There is lots to do and I am positive about that.
