President’s Blog February 2025
Looking Forward……
I had to wait until after the much-anticipated Super Bowl before I produced this month’s blog. You can imagine my extreme level of satisfaction as I watched the Eagles embarrass the fake Chiefs. I am glad that we don’t have to ever compare happy feet Mahomes to the GOAT again. I think it is safe to say that not for the officiating in the regular season, that KC would have been a .500 team. Hopefully next year we won’t have to watch pretty boy Patrick flop around like a first-year player for the New England Revolution. Let’s go Pats!
If my math is correct, we have 77 days until we open the doors and welcome all of our LKCC family back for another great season. The weather people say we are getting a lot of snow in the next week. I guess I would rather get it now than in April. It has sure been a cold winter with no apparent “January thaw”. They called it global warming for a while and now they call it climate change. Go figure.
There is no one I know that will argue that I am on the cutting edge of technology. I very rarely will participate in a Zoom meeting. I do have a cell phone but refuse to get email on it. I am not sure if you call it stubbornness or old school but at least you know what you’re getting when you open my book.
I was visiting my favorite store yesterday (Sam’s Club) when I noticed this giant display of my razor blades. I didn’t need any blades yesterday, but they were almost $10 off so I had to bite. The sign said “Scan and Go” special. I do use the self-checkout, and I do scan all the items myself, but I was still a little apprehensive. I went about my routine and then strolled up to the first available self-checkout kiosk. I scanned in the blades, the regular price appeared and then a line that said “member savings appears on another screen. I finished my scanning and went to pay but I noticed that I had not received any discount. A very friendly lady swung by and I explained the situation. She walked over to the razor blade display and then came right back. She explained to me that the “Scan and Go” meant that I needed to have an app on my phone and scan the items with my phone. I asked for some clarification. “So, the customers that use their phone get a $10 discount but if I stand here and scan all my items myself, I don’t?” She replied that it was just for customers that check themselves out on their own. Then she realized what she had said and stated: “This is stupid, I don’t know why they do this.” My thoughts exactly. I left the blades there.
The Raider boy basketball team will play at the Portland Expo at 4pm on Sat. Feb 15. They will be taking on the Greeley Rangers. I am sure looking forward to that event. March will be a month of College basketball, maybe a trip south and certainly a spring letter to the LKCC membership. April will start with the annual MIAAA conference at the Samoset Resort and finish with rebuilding the 3rd green. I am hoping to open for the season on May 2. It will be a very busy spring, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. See you soon!
Yours in Golf,
Brad
