President’s Blog August 2025…
“Teamwork”
We have made it to August and are definitely being reminded why it is the hottest month and driest month. It has been a wonderful golf season so far and I hope we will have a lot of low humidity and warm days to come.
I wanted to wait until after our annual Member/Member Tournament to write this blog. It is one of my favorite events of the year. The familiar faces offer conversation, comradery and fellowship. I welcome all voices and suggestions because we all realize that success comes from great teamwork. I will always look at LKCC as one big family. Whether it is a huge compliment, a strong suggestion or a slight criticism I hope that everyone feels like I am always available to listen. The tournament was a huge success. The play was smooth. The weather was perfect, and the food was delicious as always!
Growing up in Maine made it very easy to be a “local” sports fan. I loved watching sports! Red Sox, Bruins, Pats and Celtics were the only teams to cheer for. All these teams have won championships in my life, but my following of these teams has declined. I still watch the Bruins, most Pats games, an occasional Celtic game but have not watched much Sox in the last 5 years. On February 10, 2020, the Boston Red Sox traded Mookie Betts to the LA Dodgers. This was the last straw for me! No more Sox. I admit that I have watched more games this year. The amazing thing about baseball (that is different in all other sports) is that you can win a World Series if you don’t have the highest payroll or the best players. The Sox have a bunch of kids, traded their best hitter, couldn’t field a ground ball until after the All-Star break but are 3 games out of 1st place. Did I mention that most fans probably can’t name 2 of their starting pitchers. Teamwork is truly amazing!
As James Earl Jones states in the iconic movie “Field of Dreams,” “The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has been rolled by like an army of steamrollers, but Baseball has marked the time. This field, this game is part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good and could be again. Ohhh people will come Ray, they most definitely will come!”
As Nancy and I were working to build the sports complex in Fryeburg, I repeated these words over and over in my head. “Build it and they will come.” The recreational complex is now in full swing and many, many people are enjoying it. There is no way to measure the power of teamwork and what great things it can accomplish.
I felt so fortunate to be able to play with JC, Patty and Mrs. L this weekend in the tournament. The ladies worked together and took first again in the women’s division. JC and I got to 3 under which was just enough for a spectacular lunch and a cupcake. That darn 5th hole got us. We had a great time and played very well together.
I have been incredibly lucky to be able to spend more time at the course this year. I have witnessed so much hard work and teamwork on a daily basis. The clubhouse staff with a ringing phone every minute, to making sandwiches, mixing drinks, posting signs everywhere, taking inventory, cooking red dogs and talking to ?? 4 times a day just so he can figure out his tee time. The “cart guys” are incredible. What a well – oiled machine they have and what a tremendous job they do. The starters/ rangers do a great job keeping the play moving smoothly. I have run out of superlatives for our maintenance staff. If I listed all the different jobs that they accomplish each week, this would be a 10 page blog. The course is the best in my memory and getting better each week. Great Job!! Never underestimate the power of teamwork!
